On October 18, 2025, the 6th Poultry Nutrition and Health Forum officially opened in Beijing. Initiated by the Poultry Nutrition and Feed Science Innovation Team of China Agricultural University and the State Key Laboratory of Animal Nutrition, the forum is themed “Integration & Innovation • Precision Nutrition • Digital Intelligence • Cost Reduction and Efficiency Enhancement.”

This year’s forum brings together nearly 600 leading scholars, researchers, and industry representatives from across China and abroad. Over the course of one and a half days, 27 authoritative experts will share cutting-edge research and practical experience, focusing on topics such as net energy and precision nutrition, microbiota and gut health, and the development of novel protein sources. The event aims to explore technological pathways to improve nutrition, enhance health, and increase production efficiency, driving the poultry industry toward higher-quality and more sustainable development.

Beyond serving as a high-level academic platform, the forum has become a catalyst for innovation, cooperation, and the advancement of poultry nutrition research and application.

Setting the Tone: Guiding the Future of the Industry

The opening ceremony was hosted by Ma Chuang, Deputy General Manager of Boya & Hexun Animal Husbandry Technology Co., Ltd.

Prof. Guo Yuming, Chair of the Forum and professor at China Agricultural University, reviewed the forum’s evolution and outlined four key directions for the industry’s future:

    · Breaking disciplinary and supply chain barriers through integrated innovation,

    · Achieving dynamic regulation via precision nutrition to support green development,

    · Promoting digital and intelligent transformation driven by data and smart technologies,

    · Pursuing systematic cost reduction and efficiency gains for industrial upgrading.

He emphasized that the poultry industry is at a historical turning point and called for collaboration across academia, research, production, and application to explore new models and momentum for poultry farming in the new era.

Qin Yuchang, Vice President and Secretary-General of the China Feed Industry Association, analyzed the dual pressures of “cost reduction” and “quality improvement” faced by the industry. He stressed that precision nutrition and refined feed processing are critical to breaking through current challenges, highlighting achievements in feed-efficient breeding and calling for continued investment in scientific innovation and green, low-carbon farming practices.

Qiao Yufeng, Vice Chairman of the Chinese Association of Animal Science and Veterinary Medicine, reflected on the shift from a “shortage economy” to a “surplus economy.” He urged the industry to uphold open dialogue, strengthen cooperation between education, research, and production, and build platforms and culture to empower sustainable poultry development.

Precision Nutrition: From Theory to Practice

Experts highlighted precision nutrition as a driving force for cost reduction and efficiency improvement.

    · Dr. Hou Shuisheng, from the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, shared breakthroughs on meat duck nutrition, emphasizing the role of threonine in gut integrity and the benefits of coated sodium butyrate on gut microbiota and performance. His team led the development of the national standard Nutrient Requirements of Meat Ducks and precision feed formulation technology, now recognized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs as a key promoted technology.

    · Dr. Xu Yi, Chief Scientist of Yike Group, pointed out three misconceptions in current meat duck nutrition—target, starting point, and growth rhythm. He argued that 70% of the economic value of meat ducks lies in byproducts such as feathers, gizzards, and tongues, and that nutritional strategies should be reshaped based on duck biology and feeding behavior rather than copying broiler models.

    · Dr. Yan Lei from New Hope Liuhe shared application results of net energy systems in broiler and layer feed. Net energy-based diets increased broiler slaughter yield by 0.92%, reduced feed cost per kilogram of weight gain by 0.12 yuan, and lowered feed cost per egg by up to 0.20 yuan. Each ton of feed brought an additional economic benefit of more than 150 yuan.

    Green, Healthy, Antibiotic-Free Farming

Discussions on sustainable poultry production focused on feed safety, efficiency, and immune regulation.

    · Prof. Ma Qiugang of China Agricultural University presented research on mycotoxin degradation technologies and their role in preventing liver damage and immune suppression in poultry.

    · Dr. Zhang Guangmin of Shengtuoda Biotechnology introduced a third-generation enzyme evaluation system combining active enzyme units with digestibility improvement values to enhance feed efficiency in high-performing broilers.

    · Dr. Rodrigo Guabiraba of INRAE (France) revealed new findings on the “gut–lung axis,” demonstrating how early microbial colonization and maternal microbiota transfer can enhance antiviral immunity and reduce mortality from influenza in poultry.

    · Prof. Hu Yongfei from China Agricultural University showcased breakthroughs in gut microbiota modulation, including the isolation of Bacillus velezensis CGMCC 24752 and the development of a synthetic microbial community (SynComBac10) replicating over 70% of core gut functions in adult chickens, improving growth, immunity, and resistance to Salmonella.

A Platform for Collaboration and Innovation

With a compact and content-rich agenda, the 2025 Poultry Nutrition and Health Forum continues to spotlight precision nutrition, digital technologies, and sustainable practices. Alongside academic sessions, leading enterprises showcased innovative products and solutions.

As the forum continues into October 19, it stands as a landmark platform for integrating global wisdom, inspiring industrial transformation, and leading the poultry industry into a new era of green, efficient, and sustainable development.
