What is MBR Flat Sheet Membrane?

MBR stands for Membrane Bio-Reactor. As the name suggests, it is a "hybrid" that combines "membrane separation technology" and "biological treatment technology." In simple terms, biological treatment acts like a group of hardworking "microbial workers" responsible for consuming the contaminants in the wastewater; membrane separation functions like a super fine "sieve" that blocks the impurities and microorganisms in the wastewater, allowing only clean water to pass through. When these two techniques work together, it is hard for the wastewater to remain unclean!

In actual applications, the MBR flat sheet membrane is like a large "sewage treatment factory." From the moment wastewater enters until it exits, it goes through multiple stages, each with specialized equipment and technology performing their respective roles, ultimately transforming the wastewater. Compared to traditional wastewater treatment processes, the MBR flat sheet membrane is like a "scholar" - its processing efficiency is higher, and the quality of the water output is better, making it increasingly popular.

The "Outstanding Features" of MBR Flat Sheet Membrane

    Excellent Water Quality

The most prominent advantage of the MBR flat sheet membrane is its excellent water quality. Due to the membrane separation, it can almost completely retain microorganisms, suspended solids, colloids, and other impurities, producing clear and transparent water that can even be directly reused as intermediate water for road washing, landscaping irrigation, and landscape water replenishment. Compared to traditional processes, the water treated by MBR flat sheet membrane has significantly lower levels of chemical oxygen demand (COD), biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), and ammonia nitrogen, greatly reducing environmental pollution.

    Small Footprint: "Space-Saver"

In urban areas where land is highly valuable, land resources are extremely precious. Since the MBR flat sheet membrane integrates biological treatment and membrane separation, the process is compact, and there is no need for large sedimentation tanks, filtration tanks, and other facilities like traditional processes. Therefore, the land area required can be reduced by 30% - 50% compared to traditional processes. This is highly beneficial for wastewater treatment plants or smaller projects like residential areas and hospitals where land is limited.

    Low Sludge Production

Traditional wastewater treatment processes generate large amounts of sludge, handling which is not only costly but also prone to causing secondary pollution. Due to membrane separation, the MBR flat sheet membrane retains microorganisms in the bioreactor, allowing for maintaining higher sludge concentrations and extending sludge age. Consequently, the oxidative decomposition capacity of the microorganisms is enhanced, naturally reducing sludge production. Generally, the sludge production of MBR flat sheet membranes is only 1/3 to 1/2 of traditional processes, saving significant costs and effort for wastewater treatment plants in sludge handling.
